The post office now have me on their preferred customer list I’m sure. I’m on a first name basis with our local delivery company. I have certainly got my money’s worth out of my Amazon Prime membership this year!
Who else out there has become ‘online shopping addicted’ since lockdown?
Even with the shops re-opening, the convenience of ordering, delivery within a few days (sometimes the same day!) and then returning what you don’t need has made me question whether I’ll ever just browse along a high street again…
The convenience is one thing, when you can browse and shop at anytime that works for you, without worrying about parking, sore feet or crowds of people. What also works for me is the ability to search and find online specials, comparisons and product types, tagging several in different browser tabs. Saves you trekking about from shop to shop. You have a side by side view and there is no pressure to buy straight away. In fact, I often leave the tabs open and come back later. No impulse shopping here!
So where’s the downside?
Well, recently I decided I needed to buy brand new sports shoes. This is something I do prefer to try on, get expert advice, and just feel the difference between different brands and types of sports shoes. However, even if I walked into a shop today, the current restrictions would prevent me from actually trying on any shoes! So I made a big call… I figured that shopping in person would give me zero benefits and I had no other option. Therefore, I took my current sports shoes (which I love but I’ve now had for six years!)… and I went online and did a lot of research!
The issue with sports shoes is that you don’t know until you put them to use. I had to keep telling myself I wouldn’t even get that if I could try them on in a store.
I found a few pairs I liked that allowed for cross training, could support my weak ankles (I blame years of netball), and of course they had to look good.
Sizing again can be tricky. So once I found what I thought might be the perfect sports shoe… I ordered three pairs! One in my normal size and then a pair in the half size up and the half size down. The retailer offered free delivery and free returns – so I felt this was a no-brainer!
Well my shoes arrived, and I found my perfect fit, and promptly returned the two others. Job done! I figure now that if I can get my sport shoes online, anything is possible with virtual shopping. This takes my shopping addiction to entire new level…
Perhaps someone needs to tell my husband to warn the bank and close my credit cards?!

With us still locked down here, online delivery is definitely the new normal now, although returns are always a problems whether it’s in person or by delivery.
